Knauf Insulation Names Scott Miller to Lead
Sustainability Efforts
(SHELBYVILLE, Ind., May 5, 2008) — Knauf
Insulation today announced that it has named Scott Miller to the
newly created position of director of Sustainability and Product
Affairs. This represents the latest step in Knauf Insulation’s
company-wide commitment to sustainability practices.
“Naming Scott to this position furthers our corporate
sustainability and product affairs interests and provides us with a
liaison to governmental and public groups. He will also collaborate
with Knauf Insulation officers worldwide to assure continuity
regarding sustainability initiatives, messaging and positioning,”
said Robert Claxton, president of Knauf Insulation. “In
addition to these important responsibilities, Scott will also
develop plans for educating employees regarding sustainability at
work and in their personal lives. These plans are built around
providing products that conserve energy and preserve natural
resources for a sustainable future.”
Knauf Insulation’s products have long provided
energy efficiency. Cumulative insulation products from
manufacturers like Knauf Insulation save consumers 12 quadrillion
Btu annually, according to the North American Insulation
Manufacturers Association. Knauf Insulation has pushed forward
with the following new sustainability commitments:
- Knauf Insulation recently embarked on plant renovations that
employ emission control technologies such as regenerative thermal
oxidizers on manufacturing lines in Shelbyville, Indiana; Lanett,
Alabama: and Shasta Lake, California.
- Knauf Insulation’s new Engineering and Development office
building in Shelbyville, being built to replace offices that were
lost last year in a fire, is designed to earn a New Construction
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED-NC) Gold
certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
- Knauf Insulation’s recent partnership with Purdue University on
the development of “Hestia”, the world’s first data-driven model to
quantify, visualize, and analyze fossil fuel emissions down to the
street level. Hestia is designed to educate companies and
consumers on how they can help the environment by lessening their
carbon footprints.
Miller has been with Knauf Insulation since
February 2000 with his most recent position being that of manager
of Product Regulatory Affairs, where he was responsible for the
company’s external relations with public regulatory agencies and
other key organizations and interest groups. He is a graduate
mechanical engineer with more than 30 years of product assessment,
business development and regulatory experience. In his new
role, he will report to Glenn Brower, vice president of Corporate
and Technical Services.
Miller is involved in a wide range of industry
organizations. He serves as chairman of the Sustainability and
Environment Committee of the North American Insulation
Manufacturers Association (NAIMA), as well as serving on the
Regulatory and Political Affairs Committees. He is also active
with BIFMA, ASHRAE, the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute, the
U.S. Green Building Council, ASTM, and the Formaldehyde
Council.
