Declare® & Living Building Challenge

In 2013, we announced our participation in the International Living Future Institute’s™ Declare product transparency label program, making us the first glass mineral wool insulation brand to be listed on the ILFI’s Declare list.

What is the Living Building Challenge?

The Living Building Challenge™ is a building certification program, advocacy tool and philosophy that defines the most advanced measure of sustainability in the built environment possible today and acts to rapidly diminish the gap between current limits and the end-game positive solutions we seek.
LBC Product Declaration Mark
The Institute’s Declare program advocates for building product manufacturers to list the ingredients in their products to ensure healthier indoor living environments.  It's is a nutrition label for the building industry.  Much like an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), it helps architects, designers, specifiers, and others better understand a product’s sustainable qualities and environmental repercussions.  Through our decision to Declare® and strive for increasing product transparency, it is our great hope that these serve
as valuable tools for differentiation and empower our customers to make more informed purchasing decisions.  They should know what's in the air they breathe, the food they eat and the buildings they occupy.  We want to help.

Which Knauf Insulation products are Declared?

Knauf Insulation has continued its sustainable development by receiving Red List Free status with several of its products in the Institute’s Declare product database.  The Institute’s Red List contains materials made with undesirable chemicals, such as fire retardants, and other unwanted and untested chemicals.

With at least 80,000 untested chemicals available, it’s important for building designers to know which chemicals and other materials go into the structures they build.  Therefore, Knauf Insulation understands the importance of being a part of the Declare ingredient list program. View Knauf Insulations’ extensive listing of products with environmental certifications and material disclosures in the Sustainable Minds’ Transparency Catalog.

We have successfully earned Declare labels on several of our insulation products:
