ECOSE® Technology is a revolutionary binder chemistry that makes Knauf Insulation products even more sustainable than ever. It is based on rapidly renewable bio-based materials rather than petroleum chemicals. ECOSE® Technology reduces binder embodied energy and does not contain phenol, formaldehyde, acrylics or artificial colors.


Knauf Insulation KFR Self-Cleaning Range Insulation is used in high temperature appliances such as self-cleaning ovens. It is suitable where thermal efficiency and/or user protection is required along with very low release of noxious fumes during heat up.

    Surface Burning Characteristics

    • UL/ULC Classified.
    • Does not exceed 25 Flame Spread, 50 Smoke Developed when tested in accordance with ASTM E 84, and UL 723

    Maximum Service Temperature (ASTM C 411)

    • Knauf Insulation KFR Self-Cleaning Range Insulation is designed for applications to a maximum operating temperature of 1000°F

    Corrosiveness (ASTM C 665)

    • Will not accelerate corrosion of steel.

    Odor (ASTM C 1304)

    • Not objectionable.

    Resistance to Microbial Growth (ASTM C 1338)

    • Will not provide sustenance.

    Water Vapor Sorption (ASTM C 1104)

    • Less than 3% by weight.

    Glass Mineral Wool and Mold

    Glass mineral wool insulation will not sustain mold growth. However, mold can grow on almost any material when it becomes wet and contaminated. Carefully inspect any insulation that has been exposed to water. If it shows any sign of mold, it must be discarded.  If the material is wet but shows no evidence of mold, it should be dried rapidly and thoroughly.

    Knauf Insulation achieved GREENGUARD GOLD Certification and is verified to be formaldehyde-free.
